Keep Going

On the walkway is a chalk-written note saying, “Keep going.” This is during the fifth or sixth week in the semester, and the authors of the message know that for some students, this is the week when despair and despondency set in.

Following the direction the chalk points us are several manual workers in bright orange construction vests. They use a forklift to move a concrete bench. Students sit a ways away near a food truck and enjoy their meals.

The day is sunny and bright. If you were to focus solely on the loveliness of the day and its warming light, you would never know that some of us need a small message of hope written on the ground for anyone to see.
